What about lightweight shelters? Bivi, tarp or the like, anyone used any?

I've a goretex bivvy bag (ex army I think) which I've used at 3000ft on the south Clunie Ridge

Admittedly in June but it was fine. Not sure about using one when cycling though - if you were tired, wet and cold I think a bothy or tent would be preferable.

the only thing that puts me off is it is single skinned, I do like a fly and inner as I sweat a lot.

Personally I wouldn't buy a tent with a hydrostatic head of less than 3000mm for use in scotland, although at £25 that gelert is swaying me.

I guess I'm just surprised how many are available relatively cheap when I was buying kit years ago a tent like that would have been £300+.

single skin tents suck bad....I have bought 2 shit tents over the last 2 summers......whats the odds the next one I buy sucks as well?
