The Kili is back!

To be honest, I think the reboot is exactly what the kili would have evolved to. Geometry obviously, still got top kit, fox forks which are probably most universally desired. Hand made UK frame of that quality, superb.

I agree the price is probably a bit high. Especially compared to say a Sanderson frame.

The consumers as you mention were those in a similar ilk to ourselves remembering and preserving the old days

What came from that was a pile of crap that turned the original lovers away and saw them stuck at dealers after the initial rush and peanuts on resale

I see choppers and chopper 3's as the italian job and the italian job remake...somethings are best left as a positive memory than a modern cheap cash in[/quote]

o.k, if raleigh had aimed the relaunch of the chopper to "consumers" of a similar ilk to ourselves....our streets, culd d sacs, and neighbourhoods would be full of ageing 30,40,and 50 sumthings riding around on new choppers that are desparately trying to regain some notion of cool they may of felt from back in the day....im pretty confident this is not the market raleigh intended it for....lol, "as for the pile of crap statement......" the original frame design was used, the gear lever that never worked "ever" was replaced, the original tyre machines were used to reproduce the tyres, sturmey archer "3 spd" continued, and the saddle and bar was modified to pass newer much tougher EU saftey standards.
And whilst agree with you.... there may have been an amount of buyers that are, in our generation, that did feel they could afford to throw "£200 " at a chopper... to keep purely for nostalgia purposes, im pretty dam confident that after seeing raleigh sales figures on that model, they are sold out, and the 3 young kids in my road that have them love them and think they are dam cool, riding them, perhaps in the same way we all did when we got ours bitd., and that raleigh are happy that they captured the hearts of the new generation of riders (kids aged 10 to 14) they achieved what they set out to do.....!!!

Im going to leave this here now, its clear we differ in opinion, and thats cool...with me, so what ever our differences of opinion may be.....surely we r all here for the same reasons....love of old bikes............MERRY CHRISTMAS FELLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :xmas-cool:

shame there's no wishbone rear stays

Thought the same when Orange did their 2007 Clockwork. According to them it isn't needed with disc brakes as the whole purpose was to improve canti's (flex and all that). Don't know how true that is but guess it makes sense.

Like the look of the new Kili and am getting urges for a top end modern steel frame. Good job I'm skint

I guess those of us without the appropriate disposable income should just f**k off and look elsewhere then.

I just wanna say, i didnt feel this comment was at all constructive to this thread, or saracen, and didnt see any need for the **** off part, and was for me, certainly the start of the row, and was bound to get more than one persons back up..........??????

Lgf i certainly tried to pay you a compliment with reference to your own collection, and as you know, my desire to have at least two of them, or ones similar for my own collection of bikes. I saw them as your pride and joy and enjoy reading your threads on the 80"s frame design etc, and do indeed consider them to have worth hence my own comments too you.!!!

sadly the thing that lets this site become less enjoyable is the constant bickering that goes on. for what its worth, i feel the same rules that apply in the botm entries, should apply for all threads, ...example...."if you cant take critism for a post...."dont post it".

otherwise as better men than me have said, outside the headmasters office.

Back to the bike

To be honest If I had 2 grand for a retro(highly unlikely but weird considering I probably have spent that much on doing up cheap bikes over the years)..but if I had two grand for a retro it wouldn't be a fake modern twist one

Sure it looks nice and I know some are okay with front sus but to me retro is before all the sillyness started, no rear no front suspension just plain old fashioned two wheels and a frame

I think this will be more of a show bike to relaunch the brand so to speak but will have very very few buyers. It's good someone wants to draw attention to the brand again but for 2k..there are several members in here I would be chatting to and try and prize thier beloved proper old school out of thier sticky mitts

I guess its 'shame' I'm feeling right now.

Its just that every time I see these new bikes and the retail prices, I just sigh and wonder who they are aimed at.

Can I ask the folks that think 2K is a high price, what they would spend 2K on(bikewise that is) Looking at new of course.

You are into the territory of known 'trusted' brands/models. The average 'joe' with the money burning a hole is going to compare whats flash for the cash - the Cannondale wins that for me.
