The days of 2grand men for a bike are a long time gone... I think they are trying to cash in on the retro movement but have gone half arsed about it
The chopper you speak off, (which was reproduced in limited quantity batches) were constantly pre ordered and presold, and was reintroduced because consumers kept asking for it, raleigh new what they were doing with it, and did it well, hence there never being a permanant relaunch, and constant/current model. orange did the same with the clockwork in 1997..?....Nostalgia re-introduced these models., peoples love for the original helped this to happen.
Saracen, "the brand" was all but dead.....Madison the new owners of the brand, have relaunched the entire range.....not just one model...im not convinced they have set out to be specifically retro, (or to please aging mountainbikers like ourselves). I feel what they are doing is taking previous well regarded models and trying to stay true to the original ethos, that made them great in the first place. if the flyer was say a grand, made in taiwan with mediocre spec, every one on here that loved it bitd, would be up in arms over it.... and the flyer would have ended up more generic rubbish.....!!!!!!!
