The Karma Claud Butler build thread - opinions saught

I got one of these in blue and white recently.
Decals are low quality.

Claud Butler Professional
Reynolds 853 main tubes.
It has Shimano 105 shifters.
RX-100 components. 9 speed cassette
Frame number is on a sticker.
Mavic CXP-11 rims
Tioga saddle

I vaguely remember those being flogged as old stock by SJS Cycles (could've sworn the model was Roubaix not Professional but could well be wrong there). Wish I'd bought one back in the day and swapped the components for something better given the decent frame (I was especially keen on the unusual lugwork) with pennies obviously saved elsewhere by using so-so finishing kit.

Bought one of these in 1998, cost best part of £800 as I recall. Then hardly rode it. Until last year. Apart from now sporting a white San Marco Rolls, mine's original. All RX100 (8 speed). Still with the Time MID 57 pedals I also bought at the time. SOOOO much nicer than all those carbon things down at the club TTs! Oh, got some Reflex CDs on new Ultegra 6700s for racing on... gotta love tubs!

Time to bring my 1985 Road Ace back to life, which I probably should have done in 1998...

these frames were made in thailand as high quality "generics" they were all 853 and sold under various makers names. I've got a Bob jackson version I've seen about 10 different makers over the years :) all with the same paintwork
They ride really really well, best steel road bike I've ever been on by a long shot

The 1997 version of this can be found on this thread:

As I said previously, I have this bike, bought new and now seeing some action. Couldn't remember what the fork was as it only has the Reynolds R sticker on it but the brochure suggests it's an 853 fork too, it's better than I remembered! What price an 853 frame and fork these days?

Only thing I do find is that this bike is twitchier than my Road Ace... more to do with the straight blade fork than anything else I suspect.
