The Introduce Yourself Here Thread III

Hi all,

I'm on the forum for a few weeks now, but didn't introduce myself yet in a proper way....

I've been cycling since I'm 4 or 5 years old and got caught by the MTB-virus when I was 15.
The first MTB was a Giant Escaper with Shimano LX.
Next was the Specialized Rockhopper comp with Shimano XT upgrade
Up next was an Bridgestone MB-1 (1989 model).
After that it was an Ibis Mojo (with a handjob) directly from the factory.

In the past I visited Fridrichhaven quiet some times and spoke to some of the founders (Steve Potts, Joe Breeze, Tom Ritchey, Gary Fisher).

Last few years I'm more and more into retro builds as you can see on my post of my Ibis with ano green parts.

Since I'm more and more into retro I was just Goolge-ing on the internet and found retro bike by searching for 'retro bike'. Almost a mirracle I found the site I would say..

...and now.. I'm soaking up the information on the forums and post what I think should be posted on here..

At the moment I own the Ibis of 1995, an Ibis Mojo 2001 and a Specialized Stumpjumper 1994.

Tipicaly me is the use of non-Shimano parts I would say.

That's about it.. If you like to know more, I guess you'll give me a post and ask... as long as it's not my PIN or credit card number or things for hi-jacking my internet account...

new boy, old bike

Hello all,

Have been a lurker on here for a while now, what an amazing and friendly site!

I am 34, London based, and use a lemond versailles or my 05 stumpjumper expert fsr to get into the office and around at weekends, the very occasional race (who am i kidding, i just did the tour du lac around lake geneva once, sheesh!). No overkill at all involved with riding those 7 miles into London. Maybe not if you consider the stumpy just about has travel for some of "my" potholes!

My little bro always had nicer bikes than me BITD, so i am making up for it now by having purchased Hurin's Orange Alu Elite- can't believe it really but very much looking forward to riding such a legend and then restoring it/ polishing it like mad in the spring. Boy "O" Boy, that elite of yours got me into this!

I'e already got a lot from the forum, learning and getting the gist of this retro thing, and as i travel a lot for work i have had hundreds of forum pages to read to keep me out of trouble.

One cool thing. My wife just said of the orange, "It looks really nice- i mean it" she NEVER says that about a bike!

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and hopefully being able to be helpful for others too.

hey all, I'm Stan from Seattle, Washington, USA. I'm known as da'HOOV over on our side of the pond (and I guess over here now too ) I used to be "stan4bikes" on the MTBR site but changed after ....well, just changed my signin, let's leave it at that. da'HOOV came about after someone nicknamed me the "Hoover" cause I sucked up so may bikes. Hope I'll be a good contributer to your forum, thanx for having me....

Afternoon, I'm Andy, a paraletic Paramedic from the sunny southwest. I've been lurking around on here as a visitor since I was gifted a 1994 Orange P7 frame from a mate at work who'd moved on to bikes with engines.
Yesterday I finally got the old girl running and thought it'd be a fine time to join up properly on here!
I'm first and foremost a downhiller but am looking forward to forays onto Dartmoor this winter on my flexy new steed! As you might tell from my username I'm big into all things steel, as well as the P7, my DH bike is a Brooklyn machine works Race link and my play bike is a DMR exalt, i'm currenly on the hunt for an old steel Monty trials bike to complete the set


I dunno how many more projects i'll do as I spend most of my spare money on the DH bike, but I am gonna enjoy finding all the old trick bits to fit to the P7 to take it right back to the spec of my 1993 Prestige which was sadly destroyed in an RTC after 4 months...

Hi,
I would like to introduce myself to you all.

I am Matt a 30 something from London and just starting out on maintaining my bikes instead of taking them to the LBS. I came across the site while searching for a replacement part for my late 90's (I have had it from new but cant remember when I bought it) Kona Lava Dome.

I also have a 2006 Specialised Allez Comp which I use for the road and the occasional triathlon.
