The HiFi chat, build and modification thread!

I've compared my modified Marantz with rather a lot of players over the years. Still got the Marantz...

Having said that, still struggling with the repair of an SL-P1200B, which I think might be the one to oust the amazing Marantz if I ever manage to fix it!!

The Yamaha Music cast thingy I picked up recently blows away a lot of 'stuff' I've had access to. But, it is basically a PC in a nice case with proprietary software and retailed for around £2k so I should expect that.

Meridian 506 was a good play - last of the Philips CDM mechanisms.

It just occurred to me that this is the only cd player i have ever owned....i got it rom Richer Sounds in Birmingham when it was a very small shop. And i'm certain it was 1995/96.

New laser unit arrived today and i'm handing it over to a friendly electrician tomorrow. I was tempted to have a go but -

A. I haven't got a soldering iron.
B. Anything that involves wearing an anti-static wrist band must be serious.
C. Sealed bottom brackets and shelf erection is as complicated as i can manage.

Hopefully (and i am long enough in the tooth to know that nothing ever goes smoothly) i will be skip free by Monday

Today's Tip finds:

HH Electronics 212DC speakers in very good condition

Sony CDP 101 - yes, that one, the 'first' CD player (next to the Phillips CD-100)

Re:

Good score lgf. So this neil young fronted pono music player, sounds like it could shake things up, anyone know anything about it?

High resolution digital audio is where its at - back to the frequency response of old reel to reel analog 10Hz - 27kHz (CD being 20Hz to 21kHz)

I've managed to get the aptx Bluetooth codec working on a laptop via Qed uplay into my amp. It claims 10 hz to 22khz. Couldn't tell you if it is but the sound quality is extremely good. Like for like comparisons with CDs are very close indeed.
