The Combat Kona - now only 24.5lbs!

Here’s my hack / do-all bike, I had shoulder operation not so long ago, so the Combat Kona (so named because of the skanky army green paint) with its big soft forks and high bars is just the ticket for getting back into riding. I’ve generally been pottering around the woods on it and riding into the village for errands. I didn’t like the paint so much when I bought it, but it is growing on me now.

As with all my bikes I like them to look ‘stock’ so there are no fancy coloured bits or whatnot, just good, solid components. I’ll replace the FSA stem with a Ritchey item soon.

The official name is 'Radar Green', I guess in the sense that the sprayers sneaked the colour under the radar of the sales and marketing people! I suspect it is designed to appeal to the yoofs, not old farts like me!

The original spec was pretty naff for £700, I've ordered some better scales today so I'll find out how much it weighs soon. The standard bike claimed weight is 28.1 lb.

I like the military-style colour, and it looks particularly well-suited by the excellent fork.

All in all, that's a very good bike, no need to diss it whatsoever.
