The best thing I ever got from cycling was..

Independence. If the cycle hadn't been invented then I'd be stuck with the rubbish public transport or having to get a car. The bike is my 'car' I can go when ever I want. To where ever I want. With not costs. And keeps me fit. I could never have past the driving test now or when I was sixteen. The cost of one wasn't going help either. So bought a 'Barry Holborn' 531£200 from Hampton Hill cycles South West London.

Leaving the house at 5 am aged 11, fishing kit strapped to my bike. Summer holidays stretched out before me. Adventures with friends, building tracks, ramps, cow-horned wheelie machines, the smell of rubber cement, the spine jarring clunk of hard landings and misjudged high speed kerb hops, warm sandwiches far from home, the race to return before the street-lights came on, paper rounds.......

A sore arse.

And all of that stuff about freedom to, but firstly a sore arse.

My bike once symbolised freedom. But these days it symbolises getting to work without driving.
