I'm afraid I've never seen the point of leaving stuff OFF (an MTB...) just to able to say 'My bike weighs under...'

By all means crow about it if you've got a fully functional bike (and weigh it with the pedals on!) that you've spent a small fortune on boutique kit to get the weight right down, but when roadbikes weigh next to nothing straight out of the box I just don't get it... :?

Agreed! full compliment of gears and proper tires are needed, no matter what the weight.

I would join this <22 Ib Steel Club with my 16.10 Ib Litespeed, sadly its titanium..

My P20 is around 21lb something. You could build it lighter, but other than bits than have worn out, the spec is original. It's usable and reliable.
P20 with Tange superlight fork
Bontrager hubs by Chris King 24&28 hole 2 cross to crossride ceramic rims.
Syncros splined cranks on XTR bb.
XTR 952 mechs, shifters and chain, seatpost.
Xt cassette
Chris King headset.
Arch supreme brakes with ultimate levers
Salsa stem (bloody heavy but looks cool) Easton bars, control tech bar ends.

I'm in full agreement with the fluffychicken. If you strip enough useful bits off any BSO you could get it below 22lbs. Admissibly you may only have a swingarm and a wheel left but hey.

FO with the single speeds, how's about another thread with pictures of single speeds where people have made a concerted effort to make it over 22lb mark, more of a challenge.

mine's 21.8 with 24 gears, and components that have good reps for not breaking.

I've not compromised - i could save weight with gripshifts, but i HATE them.

Forgot to add, my Hot has full xtr 9spd no ss here and still carrying a pound of excess baggage in the form of a heavy rear wheel/cassette combo and oury rubber grips :)

...and I just put the Bombers back on today.

When I get the ti BB fixed I'd love to weigh the Kona with the rigids.

I've always been intriged by very light builds. Are they still rideable on a daily basis, or do they need constantly fettling? Or do you have to avoid riding certain tracks/places?
My P20, the frame is only something like 3lb 6oz, it has king wheels 24/28h rims, arch supremes, xtr, syncros and its had some stick. Its done Glentress, Thrunton (numerous times), Peaks, Lakes, been out in all conditions and has had very little done to it. There's very little i won't ride on it compared with my Yeti 575.
I've never gone out of my way to lose weight of bikes or components, but i do spec light kit. A light bust bike can't be as much fine as a slightly heavier rideable one ;)

mine's XTR, 217s, thompson, syncros etc. solid stuff.

If i got weenie i could get below 21, but it'd be expensive, fragile and a bit rubbish...
