ok, background problem. outlook will retrieve emails from my pop account but for some reason it won't allow me to send.

my isp is aol & the email is with 123reg.co.uk

I have tried using different smtp ports, different security settings etc. however all i can get from 123reg is that certain isps may require me to use their smtp server yet when i tried the smtp server settings for my aol account i got a different error but still no sent emails.

this is for my business address so i'd like it sorting pretty quickly so if there are any outlook / emaily type guru's out there who could spare a few minutes to troubleshoot it for me i'd really, really appreciate the assistance.

Thanks in advance chaps!

So long as you have smtp.aol.com set as the outgoing mail server it should just work, but then it is AOL...

What errors are you getting?

You may need to verify for the AOL account as well as setting it as the outgoing server.

tried that, no joy.

i've had aol accounts sync without issues before but that isn't the issue. I need a popbox account from 123reg to sync but the smtp settings aren't working.

tried smtp.aol.com with my username & password (it works on the same computer with my aol account - go figure!) but no joy with it from the 123 popbox.

depending on settings, the errors are either
Send test e-mail message: None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server.
with smtp set as 123reg or

Send test e-mail message: Cannot send the message. Verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The server responded: 553 5.7.1 <sales@hotroasthogs.co.uk>: Sender address rejected: not owned by user jaccmrn

when its set as smtp.aol

the same popbox is sync'd with another outlook account on another computer... could this be affecting it? I manage to run the same account through my galaxy sII without issues.

To be honest my suggestion would be to use Google Mail. You can setup all your email accounts in one place, so much easier to manage and accessible from anywhere.

I would just use the webmail ap that comes with the address but i need a client that will work offline.

pointed my gmail account to the address in question for sending & receiving without issues which seems strange!

gmail offline app just gives me a plain, empty white screen though  this laptop is getting close to being launched out of the window!

On a losely related note, your website has made me hungry again, and I only just had lunch!!! Hog Roast is awesome!

What is it with me seeing your threads and getting food related stuff from them!!! ;)

I hope the email situation sorts itself out soon
