TDF Hero and Friend of Retrobike.

Old School Grand Master
Hi all, Just wanted to give a shout out to a new shop I went into today and it was suggested I put it here. A rare thing these days a shop with only road bikes and kit. Even rarer is such a shop run by a TDF hero who has been on a Retrobike meet.

Adrian Timmis has opened a shop in Barton under Needwood. As well as having all the latest carbon and titanium goodness, it has a lovely steel retro work of art as a visual centre piece.

The website is here: http://www.cadencesport.co.uk/ and if you are passing the area it is well worth a visit. It was so good I bought a Garmin Edge 800. When I go back to collect it I will see if I can get a picture of the retro goodness.

Mr Timmis if you still look on the site, sorry I didn't recognise you, (I was on the Cannock ride with you but probably a good bit further back in the line). It was nagging in my mind that we had met before but it was only when I looked at the card that I realised. D'oh.

He's tweeting about restoring his 87 TdF Peugeot so it's exactly as ridden in the race - just found some orange Benotto tape on eBay

Adrian Timmis has a very good reputation for bike fitting (I've not used him, but may be due another fit, 10 years after my last, due to increasing aches and pains in my shoulder and back). Good for him to be opening a shop, too. I will put that on my list of 'must-visits'.

David

Hope he does get hold of it and restore it.

Once i get the bike back I'll post some more photos.

But since opening my shop i often get asked if i still have my Tour bike, but had to say i sold it and had regretted it ever since, then the other day the guy who bought it back in 1988 contacted me on FB! so just doing a deal to get it back and timing couldn't be better as it's 25 years next year since i rode the Tour.

Needs a few bits but doesn't look to bad. Needs respraying and some new Peugeot transfers, so will be asking for advice on where to get these, so feel free to let me know.

Already found some NOS orange Benotto tape on Ebay )

I still have the frame number, Coke bottles, shoes and Oakley Pilots, also jersey and numbers.

Cheers,
Ada

Brilliant Ada, really looking forward to seeing it when it's done.

I'm hazarding a guess that the ANC team frames, whilst having Peugeot decals, weren't actually Peugeot built, is this so? I'm sure someone admitted this to me once - but I can't remember who!

(Or possibly I can but ain't telling ;) )

We'll DEFINITELY have to get a national RB road ride organised now!

Mine was stock frame from Peugeot France as was most of the team apart from Malc and Joey

Right, well that clears that up then! It was probably in connection with one of the 2 you've named that I heard something. Certainly a very nice proportioned frame, it obviously rides well for you to want to restore it.

Any idea what happened to your Raleigh team bikes - the road ones that is? (we know about the MTB ;) )
