Tariffs and the upcoming trade war's effect on retro bike market

There are three primary theories on the purpose of the tariffs. 1, they are good in themselves. They are a source of revenue that could reduce or replace income tax. 2, they are tool used to negotiate with other countries both for reducing trade deficits and for diplomacy concerning non trade related disagreements. 3, They would bring manufacturing back to the U.S.A. to boost the middle class and secure supply chains. These theories are at odds with each other. We don't know the true purpose. Leadership has not yet given any indication of what the primary reason is. All three theories can be backed by statements that have been made. All three can't be the purpose. If they are good in themselves they won't be reduced for diplomacy reasons. If they are used to negotiate reduced trade deficits, they won't boost domestic manufacturing. Anyone who claims to know what is really happening here is merely speculating.

What they DEFINITELY aren't is global market manipulation measures. I think I could even win on the markets with such foresight!
You might think I'm going off subject but I'm DEFINITELY only talking about the retro bike marketplace.

Remember, VAT is an import tax that is levied by our government against us consumers. Having bought from the US I know how much this can affect the end price of even an old part.

I'm no Trump fan, however all he seems to be doing is sending the message to any nations that are penalizing US trade, they will be penalized back. In this insane time of globalization I think it's refreshing to see a leader putting his own nation first, and would dearly love to see one of our PMs doing some of that.

Airports in Pakistan (a nuclear power) while the roads here are crumbling and people are sleeping on the streets? Come on.
