Tange Infinity: fitting BB, headset and seat tube

I have a beautiful ~1995 Tange infinity CroMo frame to start a new build, but being quite new at this don't know what components to fit it.

I'm sorry if this question is too open, I'm still making up my mind :)

The fork is a ~97 RockShox XC with a long steerer tube.

What decent/cheap/retro/light alternatives do you recommend? Should I get a aheadset?

Thanks,
João

Does the fork have a threaded steerer? If not, the decision to use an ahead set is made for you. If the steerer is long enough to cut off the threads and still leave enough to run through the head tube and fit an ahead set and stem, and be at the right height for you to ride, then if it was me, I would do that.

It also depends on whether you care about period correctness of parts in the frame, or just want to build something up as you want it. I'd go for the build up and ride, as you can fit what you like then.

Ahead sets and ahead stems will probably give you a greater choice of parts to pick from, assuming the fork and frame are 1 1/8, otherwise there are less choices, but if you have the fork, that is half the battle.

OK, it's non-threaded, so I will go with the aheadset. Not necessarily looking for something period specific, just something relatively cheap but reliable. I'll also take your advice and build something rideable, then adjust the cosmetics.

One last question: how important is the quality of the bottom-bracket. Is it a bad idea to buy these second-hand or very cheap? I mean I'm a relatively light commuter and occasional xc rider.

Thanks!

"One last question: how important is the quality of the bottom-bracket."

In a word (and IMO) VERY. Three most important bits on any bike are the hubs/wheel axles and the botom bracket/drive axle. Good rims help - and that's about it really. The engine parts! I shall take cover at this point....within reason, frames matter very little.
