My alooooominum mtbs are very arse-harsh so I tend to favour the steelies. I too, had a Kilauea bitd, regret selling it TBH.
Never tried a Ti mtb, but if my Ti road bike is anything to go by, should be very comfortable comparatively

I've heard it said that alloy frames harden with age which might explain what your feeling :?
and I've got a M2 and a M5 Stumpjumper and a load of steel top end Konas so I gotta agree with you.
