Tales from a workshop

I'd like to see the Mustang :) , in fact i'm doing a no expense spared back to catalogue spec restoration on one just now, aiming for BOTM with this one, put all my other efforts to shame :)

Turns out tonight was clearout time. Nothing of value in here although I rescued a Peugeot racer, no real pedigree but worthy of commuter status.

Also found the BMX I'd spotted on the pile to scrap or send to Africa. Not for long. Not sending anything with history off to make Vuvuzelas.

They might like what is going though...

Ye Olde Mustang and a Raleigh Lizard, think there's a Marauder in there somewhere. Might have a ride of these to remind myself what I'm not missing.

There is a Dawes Tracker in the pile, declares itself to be Reynolds 501 steel, was that ever any good or was 501 the usual rubbish?

Here's what I have in the rack at the moment, lovely campag kit on it, 531 tubes. Deserves more time than I can spend to tidy it up but at least it's clean and all works now.

Photo's are rubbish sorry. I have a camera phone and a digi SLR that's too big to carry on the bike every day.
We don't even clean the bikes normally, just make them safe and functional and off they go.

New country, New workshop, Old bikes.

Currently in the shop we have a GT STS 1 and a something I've not seen before. There's a Specialized Venge in there but I'm not sure if this is the right scene for that.

There are two bicycle recyclers near where I live. One is privately operated by someone who is often erratic to say the least. I no longer visit that shop, which is too bad because there were many interesting finds there. I got myself a Syncros Powerlite fork for $10. The place is full of little gems if you take the time to sort through it all. I think most of the bikes come from police auctions. It has been in business for many years, but is in decline due to cantankerous the behavior of the proprietor.

The other one is professionally run with municipal assistance. It operates as a charity to help people do their own repair work, and to help unemployed people develop skills in bicycle repair. I really like the place and the people, but occasionally I have to deal with the organizational politics of the place. The two different organizations share the same stock of donated bikes, and use them for different purposes. I was accused recently playing one side against the other and now I am in their bad books. They have some real gems that they sell for next to nothing. You have to go in their regularly to catch them as the stock turns over very quickly, especially in the summertime.

Even if I don't buy anything, I enjoy just poking around to see what I might find. They currently have a 1986(I think) Rocky Mountain Sherpa with original components, in very nice condition. It's not a real collectible, but it is still a nice old machine at the right price.

I was in my local charity bike recyclers today, they had hardly anything in. It's usually mostly BSO crap but occasionally they have something decent. I overheard them saying an Orange P7 had gone been through last week. Bit gutted I missed it.
