 Just arrived…

only prob is i have a few issues. one 1 1/8" steerer is very short, other 1 1/8" has rusted through legs with okay length steerer but some of the threads are damaged, and the other steerer is 1" which i don't need, and steerer is the shortest.

thinking maybe of swapping the good legs (although i do hear a bit of rust rattle) off the 1" and put it on the longest 1 1/8" steerer with the bad legs.

any advice on how to check the integrity of the legs? should i pop off the top caps and spray the insides with something? has anyone ever repaired rusted out legs before? and is it possible to swap out the steerer?

as well, how do i go about restoring the finish on them? i am considering refinishing my Blizzard in white and have one of the powerlite forks done with the same finish. are they painted or powder coated?

also got a set of Syncros steerhorns, which i haven't decide what to do with yet.

No sure how available a dip tank is to you but I would remove the legs and have them dip stripped. That will remove all the stickers, paint, powdercoating and rust. That way you can truly get an idea as to how bad the rust really is.

As for swapping out steer tubes? I don't know how to do it but it has been done.

If you're going to paint or powdercoat, be prepared to sand down some of the finish to fit the legs in if you opt to have them finished while off the crown. Powder will be thicker than paint but even paint will make it difficult to slip them back in without sanding. A "good" painter will be able to mask the crown so you can't see a seam.

As for the steer horns, PM me if you wish to part with them. They would look pretty dapper on my Thunderbolt. While you're at it PM me with the left overs of those forks, I may be able to rebuild them if it's not too pricey.

I have a good set of legs (Syncros variety) but am in need of a crown and steerer, so if you end up with something left over let me know...

i've never stripped anything before. The forks and my Blizzard would be my first project to attempt something like this. So no, I wouldn't have access or know anything about a dip tank.

if anyone knows of a place around Toronto or surrounding area that could do frame and fork restoring, please let me know.

thanks.

I've done plenty of RM restorations as well as stripping and I'm a 45 minute drive west of you. We should chat and you can tell me how you manage to get your hands on 3 Powerlites as well as those bar ends. :D

strategic advertising! ;)

may possibly have a few more in the works since these three aren't working out as planned.

now if someone can tell me how to get a hold of a 27.0mm pro post, a set of Revos and a black flatbar! :(

i'll share if you share how u got that thunderbolt! or maybe some help with sourcing a tibolt!

btw, you still have my email? i contacted you once via email regarding a few of your craigslist ads.

just get the steerer extended on the good set, problem over.

As for the other goodies on your list, I have them all but sadly need them ;)

i briefly looked at steerer extenders and converters in the past.

extending a threadless steerer is a no brainer. and i'm aware of ones you use to add on to threaded steerer to be able to use a threadless stem, but the HS still has to be threaded?

is there one to extend threaded steerer and retain threading?
