Syncros near net forged cranks and Real Crank Case BB

bent udder

Retro Newbie
These were on my '96 DeKerf Generation, and since that has now gone to a friend (Who told me 11 years ago he'd buy it if I ever put it up for sale) the cranks are now up for grabs, complete with a NOS Real BB, for £100 posted.

These don't come with the self - extractor bolts or the original Syncros rings - neither were included when I picked these up at the Malverns Classic in about '98 or '99 (the one with the slippy bridge that loads of people crashed on and broke femurs and pelvises).

They're 175mm, aren't that worn (the letters are still clear, I don't tend to pedal heels in) and seem to polish up nice, too. I've got a reasonable finish with ten minutes and a bit of chrome polish. A few minutes with a proper buffing wheel or something would make them gleam.

The bad stuff:

* One pedal thread is a bit sticky. It's never been a problem, but you might want to get it chased carefully. The pedal axle threads in by hand quite happily for the first third, then needs gentle allen key encouragement.

* There are a couple of scars on the shoulders of the arms. These cranks have been used, after all. I'll put up some pics later today if I get the chance.

The Real Crank Case BB is a NOS version that I bought a few years ago. It needs bearing seating compound to get the bearings to seat properly in the cups. Or you could just get a nice Shimano UN57, which is pretty much what I used.

I'm sad to see these cranks go - I've owned them for over a decade - but needs must, and at the moment, that means a pretty sharp cutting down of my bike stuff to more practical levels.

These cranks go for between £140 and £125 on the 'Bay, so this is a chance to grab a bit of a bargain. I'm a bit disorganised and haven't posted pics, but I will be doing so shortly. In the mean time, if you'd like to call dibs, please do so. I won't demand payment until you're happy you've got the pics you need.

By the way, I live in Dorking and work in Hampshire, so will happily knock off a bit if you would like to collect.

Cheers,
Ben

Unfortunately I've not posted enough...

... so this is to get me to the 5 post threshold. I should add that I've a PDF of the relevant Syncros manual, which I'll try and dig up and post to the forum at some point, too - might be useful!

Fingers crossed...

Slightly weird coding going on, so here's a link to the relevant bit of my Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/udder/sets/72157594223841531/

Paul - quite possibly, although I'm desperately trying to futureproof. Sprogging means no more spending on bikes!
