The earlier flexstems were all cromoly affairs and usually came in all black or fluro yellow or gunmetal grey, then later they made an alloy one, just the back part was alloy still had a steel stem, same colours.

i very nearly ended up with the one that mark batt won in the offroad-proflex bunny hop competition against jez avery (featured on totally wild vhs) iirc
but i lost contact with him just before i had chance :cry:

there's always the allsop softride stem...

the bar doesn't rotate with these, very rare though too

That way, if I have an idea of what I'm after, when it comes up on here (or that auction site), the pondering time is greatly reduced....

i have always been a nay sayer when it came to flex stems but my proflex has the ti bar/stem combo and i think its great.

takes the sting out but you still get good control. i really like mine

Bottom line is that I need to dampen the bumps on the front end of a bike.. too much rattling = me in hospital and 3 months doing almost nothing that requires arms.. :?

With that in mind, I'd be looking for a fork. Flexstems took a little bit of trail buzz out of the ride, but I always found them sketchy with certain bars, or under hard braking in corners. A decent period correct fork (Mag 21/RC35) won't break the bank - they pop up often enough and look cool. I'd go for a decent fork over a Flexstem anytime.

One positive thing about modern bikes is that they can be a whole lot more comfortable, but then they don't have much soul.
