Suspect stolen PACE RC405 with Police.

Retro Newbie
I am a stolen cycles officer within a UK Police force. I have in store what I believe is a stolen PACE RC405 cycle. If you have had such a cycle stolen or know of anyone who has had a similar cycle stolen please let me know. I will need details of the cycle including serial number and details of the theft before I can return it. Any help is welcome.

I do seem to remember some one having a couple of Pace stolen a year or so ago. I can't for the life of me remember where I read it though.

In an attempt to find it I did stumble across the following:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/18bikes/s ... 83/detail/

http://www.stolenbristolbikes.com/2009/ ... nomad.html

None of which are the one I was thinking of previously, which I am sure was in Yorkshire and relatively closely linked to Pace them selves.

If we had a stolen bike pinned thread then owners who had their bikes stolen could warn/ask others about them and those who may have found a stolen bike, like the police/possible buyer, could easily access the information also. Why don't we have a pinned stolen bike thread?

+1 That's a really good idea

Re:

In my mind, a pinned thread would get a lot of use at first then by page 732, any post made to it would be lost and disregarded.

Pretty much why the forum has FINALLY moved away from the single how much is my XYZ cost thread infavour of a forum to post in where each thread becomes new and visible amongst the sea of older posts.

We'd first have to find out its original owner who might or should have the serial number but it might be the only way that each report the poster must be emailed in turn
Its a good idea to offer this work to the forums as this is where an unhappy soul would have posted his tale of woe.

The 405 is a modern bike and although many here could have one its likely not to be a retrobike member and more likely southern downhill, singletrack world , pinkbike(possible the best bet) or mtbr :?

Re: stolen RC405

My main hope is that if enough people talk about it to their friends, eventually it will reach the ears of the loser and we can return it, this cycle is clogging up my cycle store along with 200 or so others that the majority of people don't seem to report as stolen!

cycle finder - what happens to all these bikes if they remain unclaimed?

I'm guessing that after a certain period of time you have to 'move them on'

As a victim of bike theft back in 1985 I used to visit my local Police station once a week for months in the vain hope it turned up. It didn't, but the array of bikes that Suffolk Police had made an amazing collection...
