Anyone have any experience of riding or building with this venerable tubeset? At 1507gr for the bare tubes it was supposed to be a direct competitor for Reynolds 753. I've seen a nice track bike in 980 but no real world clue about it
SB 980 was a fairly plain cro-mo tubeset.
1624g/set uncut. 9/6/9 main tubes, 0.8mm seat and chainstays and 1.0mm fork blades.
...So more like Reynolds 531 or Columbus SL, than 753.
