Suntour XC Pro rear mech - long cage

Just chipping in as I am not sure, but based on fluffys comments, I'm not sure how to tell if this is an MD compatible mech or not. I do have an absolute minter of a mid cage MD mech (with the decal on the cage) and I also have one that shows no signs of being an MD mech, but is exactly the same down to the finest detail all over. This mech is the same, but the cage is slightly longer, but aside from that I can't see any physical differences. Anyone in the know confirm that this mech will work for mikedee?

If not, I do have one other mech, in slightly better shape than this, the aforementioned undecalled but exactly the same as the MD one I am keeping. It might actually suit me better to keep the longer cage one anyway, as I have various non-MD xc pro parts that I was hoarding for a build that is still as yet unbuilt (the pace was going to get the MD bits).

I'm really not an expert, but I think its more determined by the range of the gearing not really by the size of the chain rings and sprockets. I know the racers back in the day liked the shorter cages to keep the chain out of the way, but they were running road cassettes, and were never in the granny gear.
I'd be interested in the medium cage if it has the MD logo - especially if its a bit cheaper.

Re:

The very short is MD and this length as gar as I know is the long cage MD version.
Very short is designed for the look and 42top ring with the 8speed setup. (11-2:cool: or the 11-24 7sp
Long cage was for a 44 top ring or people with the 8sp setup and 42 who wanted to use the small small ring combination for some reason.

I believe this one is the MD long cage. The others in between is a standard cage for nonMD setups. The rear cage is the easier to tell with as the design changes between them.

Suntour used a setup mark on the mech for getting chain length. Not big big as usual.

They will all, of course, work.

I can add some pictures tonight if anyone cares.

Useful info fluffy as usual. The confusing thing for me is that the non md mechs look the same as the md mechs in most respects. Whilst I don't expect them not to work well together, are there any things that will not be compatible. I'd rather make sure I sell something that is going to work as intended.

Ok, I've checked out some catalogue scans on here and going on the info there I still need a long cages.
I have 42/32/20 up front so 22T max chainring differential. Then 11-24 at rear so 13T there. That make Max gear capacity 35T.
I'm at work so on my phone and cannot post links easily so you'll have to hunt out that info if you want it confirmed, but could really do with something for the weekend if poss.
Cheers, Mike

That's the 7 speed setup. Default would be the super short cage. BUT it doesn't matter as long and super long will work fine.
As I said, it's just you loose the small-small ring combo at least with a 28T top at the back with the short cage.
Weight saving or ability to use some gears you don't use.
(mention of cage rub in the setup instructions but I don't remember that)

Here, it's all part of Suntour grand weightloss plan.
