Made a bit more progress this week, fitted some GB bars as well as some rather fetching blue tape. Still need to sort a stem bolt for this lot. Added the GB Arret levers/hoods, although I need the ferrules which fit these so I can fit inner and outer cables. Added some toe clips with blue leather straps. Finally a used B17 for the seat post, which I still need to get. Overall the build is coming along, still a lot to do in order to get the old Bluemels guards fitted on correctly as I have to rivet new supports to the front one and add the mudflap back in as well as adjust the rear one correctly. I still think the 26" wheels look small! More soon...
Work continues on the Sun Super Vitesse. Finally got a seta post that fits, my own stock of 25.4 too msall, my 27.4 too big. 26.4 fits smooth and snugly, after a bit of light filing on the inside of the seat tube to remove some 'lumps'. Still need to source a stem bolt, the current 155mm is too short, need something in the order of 165mm. Next issue is the chain, my stock of 3/32" chain dont seem to sit snugly on the Williams chainwheel - more investigation needed. Ordered some proper GB ferrules for the GB Arret hoods, bloody expensive but the only ones that will fit. Onwards...
Work continues on sorting out a few niggles on this build. Sadly the front chainwheel only takes 1/8" chains, so I will need to change it...
Some progress made today, finally fitted the front guard properly after pop riveting two new supports in for the new stays. Found a nice blue Adie bell in my parts bin and added that too. Sadly Ive got to change the lovely Williams chainwheel as it only takes 1/8" chains, so its either change to a 4-speed or change the chainwheel. I want to keep it 5-speed so Ive taken the Williams off and will fit a more contemporary cottered item I have in my workshop. The little Sun is looking good and Im looking forward to trying it out! Whilst hunting around I found a spare, stored away Brooks canvas saddle bag, so Ill use that too for the 50s tourist look!
Continuing this singularly one-sided conversation...
Build nears its end, looking forward to a road test soon to sort out any last niggles. Taken 6 months to get to here with a few problems along the way. A nod to gentler cycling times past...
