Sugino VT vs super mighty

Picked up this mixte the other day for cheap ... Thinking probably an '85 Sport. Was thinking about slapping my super maxy 50.4 bcd cranks on there just for giggles. But I'm looking at those Sugino VTs on there... they can't be *that* nice, cheap bike and all. But they sure look nice. Haven't been able to find much info on the VT. Any good? 1000001088.jpg

For me that would depend on what other parts I'd plan to use. 50.4 for a more vintage look, the VT's for an eighties vibe.

You can't beat the classic cinq vis when it comes to flexibility, though.

Found an old nishiki catalog that says the VTs are cast; nothing to scream about either way. The Maxy's are quite a bit lighter and look cool imo. That ARX rd doesn't quite have the capacity but long as I don't cross chain it, it's fine. May put my Mountech rd on there but, it works as is, so...

It was well maintained , came apart easier than any other resto project in recent memory. VO bars, nitro stem, upgraded suntour shifters, KKT pedals. Rims were in too good a shape to discard but I'll probably lace up some 700c fat-ish tires for it eventually. Not sure why people hate Mailliard hubs so much ... but, found some pretty suntour hubs on eBay so went with that. Picked up another useable gear, down low where my old legs need it. Campy skewers, so there

Not terribly heavy, considering. Fun bike. Good enough for a grocery getter anyway. Pretty quick, or at least it feels quick.
