I would like something new as i've got more of a chance of getting a woman specific design. I'd like it to be a surprise as well so getting her to try out a few bikes could be difficult. Has anyone or their GFs' had any experiences with Scott Contessa bikes or the new Specialized Myka hardtails?

As much as you'd like it to be a surprise, I think the best was to surprise her is say "get your shoes on we're going to go buy you a nice new bike" as you'll need her in the shop to make sure she's happy with the saddle, stem length colours etc etc.

The Trek WSD bikes are brilliant, my wife has a 4500WSD and loves it.

Its got a good enough spec, as much as I would like to buy all the toys it's worth remebering that she doesn't care about carbon, adjustable forks and all that just wants a nice looking bike that is easy to use, comfortable and not too heavy.

Women are smaller but tend to have longer legs, shorter in the body, prefer wider saddles etc so a WSD makes a difference.

ie Man 5'11 = 17.5in frame
Woman 5'6 = 17.5in WSD frame

The Trek is £400 retail but your bound to find it cheaper
