STX Shimanos ginger step kid?

Im sat here with a stx rc and lx r/mech of the same year (97) and beyond the colour and the faceplate they look identical just weighed them both (just cleaned the lx) and one of them is a whole 4 grams heavier :shock: care to guess which.

Yup - you get that special blue one, for all the people that moan that something isn't working right, when they've never checked anything about it, and just assume it's inherent, then go on internet forums and say it's crap.

If you'll kindly supply your credit card details, and the remnants of the STX crap you found didn't work right, despite doing nothing to make it, and you can have your magic badge.
 
I'll bet that 99% of people couldn't discern the difference between STX and XTR in the dark just by riding the bike... :LOL:

LOL 1) obviously it was set up close enough to right, as it would shift when I could get the shifter to engage 2) the whole bike was a pos that I quickly decided that I regretted purchasing. 3) I tried some basic stuff... like checking cable adjustment and stuff, but it was to the point where I was ready to write it off and replace everything with XT. The groupset was definitely the problem. Idk if it was just my STX RC or not, but that was definitely the problem with that bike.

You can't really complain about me posting about my experience with STX RC, since I did own it... and ride it... and thought it was crap. Not because of weight but because of functionality.

I would have gladly sent you the STX bits for free, but instead I traded the bike + a little cash for a XT equipped litespeed obed.... according to you the STX bits were obviously knackered anyways.

P.s. I do like the looks of STX RC

Here's the thing.

You can say what you like about STX / STX-RC. You can say it's "CRAP" you can say it looks awful, is heavy, it's not XTR, and it's over here. You can even say it makes a lousy martini.

But calling it crap because you'd claim it doesn't function, is clearly complete and utter guff, because it DOES work, and any issues you had were likely just maladies of either fvckwittedness, wear, adjustment, or all three. So when you spout utter nads about it, I'm just as free to call that as the unsubstantiated tripe it is - that's how that works.

If some of the people above deserved a reply for the sheer ignorance (and not the irony, like I'm sure they wish to believe) they're displaying, I'd tell them how actually opening up and cleaning some shifters (including XT and XTR) makes them work better. But then again, maybe they like talking about a bike more than working on one or riding it, for a change.

This becomes too much of a "my dad beats your dad" kinda argument. The only problem is that once too often STX-equipped dad beats the crap out of XTR-equipped dad. In real life, that is. True story. ;)

Now please excuse me, I'll go sniff some XTR to get super riding powers. :)

* Except for the moment you first reach and touch those naff BL-M600 brake levers and cut your self on the poorly finished edges ;)

The BR-M600 V-brake calipers are very substantial on the other hand. By contrast, no trace of crappy plastic in the internals and arguably far far far better than the majority of more modern stuff.

I have to agree with all that, but I would like to add that the weirdness of the levers is what makes them interesting. I don't mind the looks, frankly, but I still have marks from the M600 cuts in my joints, that got hopping on my back wheel thinking I was doing "trials". You have to agree that the chances that Shimano brings out something that defiant are not very big. And, let's be honest: the canti handles badged Deore or Deore XT from the late eighties/early nineties were far more ugly, still nobody disses them. Not to mention Campagnolo's Euclid... ;)

BR-M600 calipers and Avid's similar efforts were the moment when brake power was truly brought to the masses. Forget about fiddly and squealing XTR's and especially XT's - they needed an official minor facelift to tone the noises down. The BR-M600 is the worlds most copied brake and I'm glad it is! Did anyone notice it's in STX territory as it is in the LX group? ;)
