Stupid modern bike

So you're saying for the Brigton Big Dog I should leave the 1990 Fire Mountain in the shed and take the modern rig.....?

Nah, ride the 1990 Kona, I had one of those until late last year and enjoyed riding it alot, its one of the bikes I wish I hadn't sold. But, if you start getting all competitive with your mates about lap times, drag out the modern rig for a couple of turns :)

Over a 30mile enduro, given the stats above, riding a modern bike would give me at least a 7.5 minute advantage over riding a retro bike. Thats not a mild improvement, its a hell of a lot.

I reckon if you asked the vast majority of cyclists if they'd prefer a vastly improved service life or slightly increased performance in their new bike, they'd say service life anyday.

I'm pleased such fast machines exist; I like almost all bikes. But I do resent the way the majority of parts seem disposable now.

Competition is all well and good for those that want it, but what's wrong with providing people with high quality bikes for people that just enjoy cycling?

85 chuffin' quid for seals and a service and the LBS manage NOT to re-assemble my Fox Forks correctly :x

The adjusters on the right leg are flapping in the breeze and the forks came back covered in greasy prints and oil :(

Back in for some remedial treatment tomorrow. I'm not happy.

Oh to be back in the UK......
