If only my english was good enough to even come close writing these passionate story's about bikes in general and for this thread, stumpy's in particular.
What I dó have, are a couple of pictures of my stumpjumpers.
I'm not an expert, I've not scanned the world for that last missing piece, I'm just an enthousiastic fixer-upper with a incredible amount of luck what last bike in this list concerns.
Stumpjumper FS from '96. Offered for free but ended up being rebuild by me and given back to the original owner.
Stumpjumper Comp from '91. Bought for €20,- and my very first encounter with xt thumbies.
Best finds on both bikes were the tires;
2.0" and 1.9" (as spec'd) on the FS. Yellow striping on the sides and no skinwalls, but hé?
CST caballero (??) COMP on the ...... comp. I thought that looked good.
But then .... vaguely visible through the decathlon bike's triangle in front, I could read Stump
I gave the guy a ring and he offered me the bike for a very decent price.
Little did I know (literally at that time) that I just scored the holy grail!
After some research, the terms Suntour XC-Pro, Duralcan, M2 team and sofort came to life.
I could have parted the bike and sold the separate parts for bick bucks.
I chose to keep it together and after some severe convincing from the other side, I donated it to the MTB museum in Arnhem, the Netherlands (where it should be on display now?)
