sts builds ?

@ mikee - I'll look forward to that. You've got some really nice builds in your shed.

I was out on mine at the weekend after a long hiatus, I struggled to reconnect with it :( change of tyres needed (running velocicraptors) and I'll try it again next weekend :)

The hunt for parts is paying off at last :D big thanks to fellow retrobikers xenophile and mrgrumpy!

Just got some great XTR V brakes off xenophile, smooooth Chris King headset off MrGrumpy, and a Thomson stem and 1st gen Crossmax wheels off the bay, its starting to take shape!

when was thomson stuff first marketed ?

looking more to syncros or core stuff for mine , tho open to other options

so leading on from this ,what would be the formulaeic ,generic build for
an STS ? i'm thinking west coast US stuff ,but race face syncros and other canadian stuff would feature strongly
whats your take on this ?

Original spec on the 99 STS I Drive included a Thomson seatpost but a pretty poor by comparison Azonic ORC stem (which seemed to be fitted to most GT bikes above £600 that year)

I wanted a Syncros hinged stem as I had one on my old Zaskar back in the day but can't seem to find any under 130mm long nowadays, I still have a brand new spare angled top cap that I was planning to use with it but guess I'l save that for when one crops up (eventually!) :)

never been a thomson fan ,dunno why tho
you should be able to get a 120mm syncros hinged quite easily , tho be
carefull as a few i've seen arn't aligned properly , look squint when the bars are true to the rest of the bike ,

my mind always says m952 through out, judy sl's, kore bar/stem/post, wtb saddle. poss deviations would be race face chainset and syncros stem/post
