Strange problem with Hope Ti BB

Could it be that the spindle is not original? I guess I'll have to remove the non-driveside bearing and have a look. :cry:

Hope did a lot of "pointless" sleeves, there's one on the inside of my big un 20mm conversion kit, I assume they put it here to stop water entering the shell but as it doesn't sit tight it's just extra weight...

I thought it was to direct water down between it and the inside of the shell where it would corrode :?
The Hope ones on the hubs sit against the inner ring of the bearing ,seems to me this is to prevent movment and to help stabilize the bearing itself :? So its supported all round.

I don't have a bb out of a bike to look at it, but if the sleeve is 48mm, the raised section of the axle should be 48mm bearings are 7mm each which adds up to the 62mm total width you have so it should be ok. Are you fitting the bb assembled as per the picture of the red one? This is how they came from Hope when new.If you don't fit them like that the sleeve may not sit straight between the bearings and tilt and jam up against the end of the cups which will prevent the cups screwing fully into the frame.

That is not the case. Cups go in perfectly straight, tried several times and the result was the same.
The total width is about 70.2mm. (Center sleeve 48mm + bearings 14mm + cups on both side about 4.1+4.1mm).

It's a road spindle for sure. 70mm would be Italian but my cups are normal british threaded.

But hey. Who cares. I took off the sleeve to have a look inside.

The spindle is titanium and 103mm long. The raised center is 44mm wide. It's symmetrical.

As you can see the too wide aluminum center sleeve has prevented the left bearing from moving down the spindle to the position where it's supposed to be.

Oh well. I guess I'll have to take the center sleeve to a machine shop to shave off 4mm.
