I just sold my 91 Zaskar on ebay to someone who seems to really appreciate it. He was very excited in our communication. He showed me a picture of a very nice Moots in his collection.

You have to be careful though -
if somethings got for nothing, that can be how much love and care it gets.

We see loads of neglected nice rare or interesting bikes, the owner insists its not worth fixing or even maintaining because they got it cheap or free.

True that.
Ok, gift em to those that actually know crap about bikes. Been in the AM/OE side of the industry for 35+ years so have a crapload of pals that knows what’s what.
I once turn down a present (sweet 72 Plymouth Barracuda in primo shape) in my early 20’s because I knew I didn’t have the means for upkeep. Respect the efforts of the previous owner.

A good point! The small amount of stuff I still had for sale on eBay is slowly shifting. Some of it had been on there for months as well. Do you think there are many people outside of Retrobike who have an interest and appreciation just not enough to be part of a forum?

My mind is set at the moment on putting the stash in to storage to at least have some space to think about it. I remember my dad shifting his scooter collection in the 1980s, a combination of cheap and chucked away. He is still sore about it now he is interested in scoots again.

I say cryogenically freeze them.

Throw them down a well, like our grandparents did with their Nortons and BSAs

That way the ones that are left (e.g. mine) will become more valuable.

Wonder if you could find a bike shop with the right ambiance (ie one that doesn't just sell disposable cookie-cutter bikes) and ask if they want to hang em on the wall. Put em "on loan"

You see this at motorcycle shops from time to time. Our local BMW dealer has a veritable museum upstairs, personally I think it's darn cool. Mountain bikes have history too, doggone it
