Store/keep or sell?

I've had similar thoughts over the past couple years. I ride my TST titanium bike that I converted to 650b. I'm keeping my 95 Zaskar LE, my 91 Monster Fat and my Team Marin. Everything else is going. I just sold my 91 Zaskar. I need to get rid of a couple frames and some parts that would serve others better than me. I would still like to get a Ritchey and a Yeti but honestly wouldn't ride them. I'm still holding out on getting a modern bike but I'm getting older and would benefit from a modern bike.

I have a similar situation to the one you describe. Several bikes at my in-laws house, 5 min walk away in the loft up 3 flights of stairs. I end up only riding the bikes I have at home, because riding one of those in storage means taking one of the regular rides there, up the stairs, and swapping it for one of the stored bikes, down the stairs and back to my place. This shouldn't be too difficult, but lack of time, willingness, etc. means I just don't do it, so the stored bikes just aren't ridden. Headsets have seized, hubs and BBs quite likely also, and they will need work to be rideable, which just means I'm even less inclined to go and get one.... I won't sell them for sentimental reasons, but equally, they aren't ridden at all. Bit they are safe, warm, dry, and ready for whenever I do have time and inclination to get out on them. Hopefully over the Xmas holidays!

I reckon in asking the question you kind of know the answer. I don't like having bikes I don't ride - this year I've had a lot of commitments that have left me with less riding time. I have seven bikes. I have ridden five of them this year. I could very easily store the two that I haven't ridden, but I would prefer to sell them (even though they are beautiful). I am almost entirely unsentimental about my bikes, even frames that I've had custom made. Get them gone. Sell five and buy one absolute belter!

Check out the insurance situation before storing at the friend's place.

However, my preferred option would be: scrap the garage-conversion plans, keep the bikes!
