i have a 14x7 shed and near 30 bikes in it
remove pedals and seatpost slacken stem and turn bars 90 deg (re-tighten),hang by front wheel from roof/wall
same again pedals etc and slot on between with wheels on the floor
other end of shed has 4/5 built ready to go cept for pedals bikes
and in my garage is usually 2 just to grab and go
removing wheels also helps ,store wheels elseware,loft etc tho wheels do
seem to take up a lot of room

i realise this may be a bit of a pita for some storing partially stripped
but its a good way to rotate usage if you have multiple bikes

I like the Minoura bike stands.

Find them very sturdy etc. (not necessarily cheap though)

I made my own version of a bike stand using a 4"x4" cedar post cut down to about 6.5', a 2x4 for the base, two Racor folding bike racks (for double) and rubber coated hooks.

It holds six bikes in a little more space than you could normally keep two (if propped against a wall). I call it my bicycle tree.

I've got three bikes and a frame on it now (plus an assortment of wheels), but there is room for six (and another four if I pulled it away from the wall).

As you can see, it also serves as an impromptu works stand.
