Stickiest cantilever brake pads still available?

Yeah is there a way to set them up that get's better efficiency from your brake like toe in/out etc?

'toe-ing' is also good as squeal preventer - have you read:

*edit - I get the feeling that many people never took the time to set their brakes up properly back in the dim and distant and as soon as the 'on/off' V-brake came along, cantis were discarded and gained the reputation that they should never have had.

I include myself in that too, but these days, faffing has been honed to near perfection and now, with more time spent 'faffing' than riding, my own cantis work very well, even the low profile versions.

Please dont let this descend into another argument though, which is better blah blah blah. Both myself and Staf live and ride in the flattest areas of the country and even if we had no brakes would roll to a gentle stop some where in Suffolk...

That's probably very true bud especially the bit about cantis being ditched as soon as V rakes arrived which is probably why until now I haven't even attempted to hone my canti setting skills!

These "my cantis suck" posts always make me scratch my head. I ran low pro XT and XTRs on my DS bikes BITD. Hell, I'd use my A2X for short course DH races a few times a season. Aztec, Kool Stop, Ritchey, Shimano. They all stopped the bike more than quick enough if you took the time to set your straddle cables up to match the leverage ratio of your levers and got yor pad angles in the ballpark.

Then again, Juli Furtado won the Worlds riding down the old WC course at Bromont on this bike with cantis and bar ends.

The thing is, V brakes are cantis the difference is the length of the arm and the cable action. I see V brakes as a heavy handed way of stopping motion, just pull the brake and crush the pads onto the rim with force as opposed to top pull cantilever where the braking force is an action of accuracy, finesse and mechanical theory put into practice.

Perhaps it is the force that can be applied by Linear cantilevers, ( v brakes) that is the attraction, as that force will stop movement even if the pads are incorrectly set up, a case of kill rather than cure, dominate movement with sheer crushing power.
