Steerer extensions.

Managed to get it all together (with a mallet, cast guy crushed crown tube, took lots of emery cloth glued to a 1" pipe!).

Got the fckr in there finally, 1 question now, how do I put correct pressure on headset now I removed star nut?

Homer moment, D'oh!

Usually the quill type ones have a way to work as a more standard arrangement would i.e star nut equivalent. Otherwise they are pretty useless I'd say.

Surely the quill type without a star nut arrangement are made for threaded forks? Where you don't need a star nut....

Sorry if im not understanding this......

Rethinking this, it is probably worth noting that a steerer extender and a quill to ahead adapter are different things.

If it is just a steerer extender of the quill type, it replace the quill stem, so you still need to use a threaded headset in the same way you would with a standard quill stem. The headset will need the usual fettling of the nuts to allow for spinning bearings and no play. You then just drop the quill to ahead adjuster in where the quill stem would go, then pop on your aheadset/threadless stem of choice.

If it is a quill to ahead adapter, they would have the ability to replace the star nut as above.

This is what I was thinking but then I remembered that a star nut had been removed from the steerer so, presumably, this is a threadless steerer with a quill stem 'thing' stuck in now. Either that or I've got the wrong end of the stick completely. I'm still not getting where the G-clamp fits in either. 🤷‍♂️
