steerer a wee bit too short..who wings it?

I would ask this question again. Can you take a steel threaded steerer that is two short, install a quill adapter 1 1/8 to 1 1/8 and then use a threadless headset?

dont see why not as long as the quill part is in far enough and you can tension the bearing cup

I know I'm late to the party here but I used a Crank Bros headset on my Dekerf becuase of the low stack heaight. I don't think any other headset comes close.

After thinking about it I don't see how I could apply tension since the adapter is essentially a quill stem, good for locking but no star nut to pull up with.

Cut the sloping part if the quill off get rid of the expander and you souls be able to use the original quill bolt with a star fangled nut still

Personally if I couldn't find another pair of forks with the correct length steerer I'd get an additional length of steerer tube welded on.

This, I know of a few trials forks that have had the steerer extended and that is one of the key places for snappage to occur with us so you know it'll work. Can find a link to the thread about it if you want??

EDIT: It's here http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/topic/169 ... try2349495

ftfy.

Is it a rare frame? I had the same problem some years ago (3mm in my case), and solved it by filing 3mm off at the headtube's bottom end.

Of course you also need to make sure there's enough room to properly fit the headset cups afterwards, as there's no point in filing off th headset and then discovering that you gained nothing because the caps stick out afterwards.
