Steel Explosif is back for 2010!!! plus a new Kilauea?

There's a flavour of trading on the name about the new Explosif. As Messiah says, if they were confident to give details, if it was made of a high quality head-treated tubeset, then perhaps we might put aside the pathetic graphics. But even then, only perhaps.

Orange frames are quite expensive, but I would guess that the Reynolds 853 R8 should be a far better frame than the new Explosif. Or why not go back to the man behind the plan? http://www.brodiebikes.com/2010/bikes/catalyst.php
(not that he's involved any more, but that's much more recognisably a Catalyst than Kona's effort)

Anthony, any idea what the bike in the middle of this group of three is?

This is from Interbike 2009, and that looks like a Ti hardtail, but the price is kind of low..........

Them big tubes and 1.5 headset look a bit too chunky for ti. Having now aquired my dream Kilauea I really pity Kona for having totally lost the plot and gone all " Pace " and abandoned their roots. BAAAAD idea.....ask Saracen.

EDIT: stupid me was looking at the chunky monkey in the foreground, sorry mate ( mind you, tubing still looks a bit on the thick side....like Rock Lobster's cock up when they remade their ti look like an alu job... ).

Better frames out there now...I think they've missed the boat with this one

Yes I agree, it's an ugly frame and I dont like it, they have lost their identity and the best years of Kona's was the '90's bikes and cant see them coming back as good bitd as there is better frames from other companies out there, def missed the boat now.

I'm with you there Guy. Kona's great frames were designed by Paul Brodie and Joe Murray, who left in 1990 and 1994 respectively. Since they left, Kona has gradually fallen behind Brodie and Voodoo. I would rather have any Voodoo or Brodie than the equivalent Kona.

Unfortunately there aren't many of either around in the UK, and as beggars can't be choosers, Konas will have to do as an alternative!
