i spoke to the rep for Orange, by email, there's a plan, but he wouldn't say any more. don't know what that means, Orange were 2 companies, the manufacturing side and the paint/sales/distribution side, maybe there is a way it can continue, i hope so. i just sold my last RX9 out the door at £1200 (from 2200 at RRP but i had it at 1700 already as i had it from the summer sale prices when there were discounts at trade from orange for the shops.) so that leaves me with 5 bikes in stock, possibly an Evo S soldon tuesday if he likes the colour.

ok, more from the rep,

and i quote:-

I will let you know when I can but it everything works out we should be fine and defo still need the dealer network on board.

I can’t imagine for one second that this is the end for Orange. It may get changed and tweaked in the future but the name isn’t gonna just die.

I could see it being acquired by a big player possibly. Trek? Specialized? Etc

if anyone was gonna buy it wouldn't be american, absolutely no chance of specialized as they struggling and trek have sold their uk premisis to redbull f1 racing so that they can expand and build a new wind tunnel, trek will operate from europe which the partially do anyway.

if anyone was gonna have it i'd suggest Madison would be a good fit, they started Genesis, bought the Saracen brand name and did a reasonable job of sorting that out although the negative pre madison history of saracen caused them issues in the uk so they sell better in europe. but if they did get involved they'd have a factory, a british brand, would beable to supply DT wheels, forks, shocks, shimano brakes and gears, Pro finishing kit, it could work. that said currently madison got kippered by wiggle to the tune of £1.1 million so maybe they are not flush at the moment!

Yeah, coz you can buy so many Gary Fisher, Bontrager or Klein models from Trek these days.

Specialized have canned 8% of global workforce, no way they are buying a tin pot Brit brand.

I said it earlier and I’ll stand by it, the Orange brand has little appeal outside the memories of a loyal (too) few. It’s very sad for the company and employees but it’s the truth. The folded alu bikes are marmite and the far east made bikes have little to distinguish them from the cheaper competition. In the case of the P7 I’ve been looking at, I would never consider it at its original price.

But after the acquisition they did continue to sell those brands did they not? Klein was up until 2005 ish

Bike industry is gonna need to change to keep up with times , but also to keep afloat. Nothing will be impossible but I guess in 10 years it’ll be simply a few big players with it all.

I still think Mike Ashley or someone like that could take it.
