All the '96 built frames from the Mountain goat/Altitude factory started HO96 and all the '97 Hots on this forum all start with this no sequence, this means that this one was built after Altitude's contract probably by a company called Enigma in the US.

Neither mine or SpearedHot's follow this. They are definitely '96 Hots built from 853, but they have Kona dropouts and the serials are HT***. Mine is HT121.

I stand corrected, I completely forgot about the HT serial no's. Does yours have the little mountain goat heads stamped into the drop outs? I wonder why Altitude would use HT*** and HO96? Maybe HT serial no's were built at the end of '95 by Altitude to be sold in '96? My VooDoo Bizango was built by Altitude in '96 and starts BI96 but has the hooded Ritchey drop outs rather than the mountain goat embossed ones.

No, my dropouts aren't stamped with the goats. I think they're just the standard Kona dropouts from that year. I'll check when I get home tonight to confirm.

This is SpearedHot's bike that a quick google search threw up:

This is a pic of my Hot. As you can see, the dropouts are just stamped Kona. I think these are the first of the 853 Hots, built before the Goat stamped ones.

Re:

Am I alone in thinking there's something ever so slightly more cool having the mountain goat drop outs? They look wicked.

I agree with you in principal, but I wouldn't swap mine. I'm not sure when Mountain Goat changed to those dropouts, but my '92 WTR doesn't have them.

Re:

Anyone on here win it? I really wanted to have a bid but couldn't scare up the funds, bloody January!

It went cheap really but factor in shipping, insurance, taxes and general extortion by our postal service and I guess it would end up costing normal Kona Hot money.

Re:

It was me..spotted the auction 2 days prior to the end..Been working away in Northern Scotland..very little tinternet coverage using an iphone.. Did search the 98 section but didnt see anything..now i am home {got back yesterday} and catching up on old threads discover this :oops: . Joe the seller very helpful..plans dont know yet. I picked the frame up today..lovely condition..trail debris marks..over all 9 out of 10..well happy.

It has the bioval down tube like Konaman {Matt} lovely green one

Also got the original invoice and touch{dont know if the touch up is original}

For transparency and pricing for Retrobike frame was £335..shipping was £65..and i paid £90 for import tax which i knew i would..so Matt was right £500 ball park figure.

Ernie..{wearing a stab proof vest} :LOL:
