Sram xo rear mech, is it 9 or 10 speed?

Just acquired an xo rear mech and shifter. Prior to buying it all seemed as though it was 10 speed according to the info I got, but on collection there now seems to be some doubts about the rear.

Gone are the days it seems when sram used to date stamp things which would have helped, so does anyone know how I can work out if it 9 or 10 speed without fitting to a bike?

Re:

If you could post a pic Ian I should be able to assist as they do look different mate, Saying that my X0 10 speed mechs all have 10 speed printed on the curved cable guide just before the cable fixing bolt, whereas 9 speed didn't have any writing.... However on yours it could have been 'de-badged' as the SRAM decals are easy to remove....

Re:

Cheers, I'll grab a pic later and post up.

I'm not too fussed either way, as I have a 10 speed x-9, but the XO is obviously nicer and it would be good if it was 10 speed to go with the shifter.

I'd be interested to know what makes it a 9 vs 10, and whether whatever makes it so can be swapped from the x-9 (doubtful I know)

Re:

Pretty sure apart from a slight aesthetic difference, It's the geometry of the curved cable guide that I made reference to in my last post which would have an affect on pull ratio..... And I'm pretty sure these are always riveted in place to the rear plate of the parallelogram, this might be interchangeable between 9 & 10 speed X0's as they're rebuildable via the circlips, however the X9 isn't rebuildable so probably not much help to you....

Just looked at a 10 speed XO DH I have on one of my bikes and whilst it doesn't have 10 speed printed on the aforementioned cable guide, It is engraved on the hanger bolt.

Re:

Definitely 9 speed mate... From about 2008 iirc

Looking closely at the pic of the rear of the cage, Is that not the date there Ian..... DEC 0?

Figured it was 9 after finally finding the x9 one 8 have. Shame but no big deal, as I wanted a 9 speed carbon 9ne to replace an x0 one with a metal cage.

Well spotted on the date on the cage. You can't see it on the mech in hand unless at a certain angle and it looks to be Dec05.

Thanks for your help.
