Dirt Disciple
Well last year i finally got hold of spooky metal head frame. I've really liked these frames since they came out just never had one. I saw one on ebay and snapped it up. I'm building it up with bits i have lying around and the odd bit bought new for it. I'm sure i'll gradually change bits on it as it goes through. Any way here's some piccys of it, and where i have got too. (which is nearly ridable.)
Clickable thumbnails of it being built below.
I started to build it with a set of badger cranks but it turns out the reason i took them off a bike is because their completely shot. So i replaced it with a a set of xtr ones i'd just taken of my DH bike. The only problem with these is that their Standard drive. and the smallest tooth chain ring i had for that is 40 tooth. which will hit the frame when it's where the middle ring goes on the crank. Now got a 34 tooth ring which will give me a fairly decent ratio with an eleven tooth cog on the back.
The back wheel is a hope bigun on a mavic 521, that is off a meta 4x i broke earlier this year. The forks are Marzocci 4x which were also on that bike at one point but were replaced, so are now spare. The front wheel is another hope big'un, which i have built up on a mavic rim. (can't remember what at the moment)
Have some hope mono min brakes to go from and rear, an old Xt 9 speed rear mech and a deore 9 speed shifter to fit.
Fitting the brake was interesting since the frame didn't come with a disc mount, not that it would have mattered since i don't have any disc's in a suitable mount so i elected to make my self up a disc mount out of some 5mm ali plate. I made a cardboard template of where the disc caliper had to sit, transferred it to the aluminium, then bolted it to the frame and faced it. It works pretty good. Piccys of it below, i'll need to take a couple more as i didn't take some before i fitted it.
Along with the disc mount, i'm making a chain device for it as i intend to run a rear mech, with about 3 cogs on the back, so i can have at least some limited choice of gear to be in. making a bash ring and top guide mount one. It's about half way made with the bash ring and back plate that the guide will attahce made.
Both need putting on the bike and adjusted, then the guide being made.
Disc mount.
Chain guide.
