Spoke gauge

Re:

up until a few years ago i didn't know how to measure the gauge of a spoke and when i went looking for a 12g spoke for an E bike i found this website, pretty much all for motorbikes but the table shows how to measure a spoke

https://www.central-wheel.co.uk/informa ... spoke.html

also

these are the sizes

13 gauge is 2.3 mm
14 gauge is 2.0 mm
15 gauge is 1.8 mm
16 gauge is 1.6 mm
17 gauge is 1.5 mm

as has been said most are a 14g/2mm at the threaded end, it tends to be lightweight race spokes that are 15g/1.8mm

when i build a wheel it's mostly stainless steel double butted, i prefer silver as opposed to black purely because i think they look nicer and sometimes black spokes go dull or brown after a while where as silver stay shiny

Thanks for all the help, chaps. Swapped out a nipple from my for sale wheels in order to keep riding, and have today rebuilt with new (blingy red) nipples.

Sorted.
