Just picked up a set of wheels that have splined spoke nipples. Anybody know where I can find a splined spoke wrench for 14 gauge spokes?

possibly mavic.

and if so look at the Lezyne chain tool which has mavic spoke wrench and standard wrenches on it :)

Park made a spline drive spoke wrench. IIRC the plastic cover on the loop was purple. I think it was discontinued. In a pinch I could make one.

Spline Drive (twist our nipples!) was the company. The Park tool is purple, and Spline made a little black cross shaped too as well. They both pop up on eBay every once in a while. You can also ask your local shops if they have a small tools drawer, as these 'outdated' tools just sit in toolboxes in shops and sometimes they can be purchased.

Thanks all.

I'll give the LBS a shot and if they don't have one I guess I'll add it to my ebay watch list and the "wanted" section here.

Here's a pic of the Spline Drive tool. I only saw black ones, which came with a bag of nipples, and the purple Park tool, but maybe the Spline tool came in silver too? Either that or this is a motorcross spoke nipple tool. Spline started out in motorcycle stuff back in the day.

Either way, now you have a pic of what to look for! :D

I'm pretty sure that's the one I need. I went to the LBS and tried the Park SW-13 splined wrench, but it's way too big. The splines on the nipples I'm trying to remove look like miniature octalink splines i.e they're relatively shallow.

If anybody has one of the purple-handled Park wrenches and would be willing to sell it to me or lend it to me for a day I would be very grateful!

really the Lezyne tool has 2 sizes of splined spoke key / wrench on it! also has 2 standard square spoke keys and a chain tool too.

I think the Mavic spline is too big, but the other size may work. Thanks!

Might be worth trying Spinergy spline tools...

The smallest (top two on the right) have 6 splines, outside diameter 5.0mm.

I've got hundreds if anyone's interested.
