Fun begins in finding a set of dust covers for them…but stoked to have these on the bike. Can’t wait to get this project started.

I'm sure there's no chance you'll be letting them go, but I'm desperately searching for a similar set of CQP cranks, if you fancy abandoning the hunt for those dust caps?
Or, you know, if you ever just change your mind about them at some point!

Was not a planned find, but an exciting opportunity. I had initially been in search for a 91 grey Stumpy when I stumbled on this. I have not yet envisioned the end product but I think these cranks will be in it. However good to know they have a home if they don’t work in the build

…I saw some caps across in Germany which I will investigate further.Good day to all those who have had to fight the seized seatpost battle. Well I started the strip down of my Specialized Stumpjumper Epic as I have completed all my house chores most things coming apart easily except for that seat post. 2 weeks of fighting, temp treatments, you name it!! After conceding to the loss of the post, the bench vice was next. The challenge here is it is too high to really get any upward leverage. So as you can see from the photos, I conjured up a plan to floor mount it. But after shifting the wife around the room I resorted to using good old masonry work! Oh an yes a dirt cheap multi spray which for some reason after a night of sitting in the upside down tube I managed to get it to turn a fraction using a plumbers wrench and an extension bar. It took another week of repeated cheap multi spray and the wrench, and lots of sweat I moved over to the floor vice. Well it took about 1hr of backbreaking heaving and repeated spraying and out she popped

Here are a few pics of the cleaned frame. Sorry they taken inside. Added a cleaned up XT rear derailleur to replace the STX. Cleaned the XT front. And after a bit of elbow grease and buffing the forks and frame cleaned up nicely. BB regreased and for now thinking of using a set of crank tension bolts with dust grommets (not sure of the tech term). These will complement the CQP M2000 cranks which came with the bike but were missing dust covers. Need to source a replacement seat post still. Not sure on the Deore hubs with the WTB dual duty XC rims. To replace or not too? I have a set of LX hubs on Specialized Z21 rims but not sure which would be a better fit. Any opinions or suggestions welcomed?? Thx

It's an 88 Stumpy Epic 
Following this build with great interest and also in the hope that one day in the future you may want to part company with it and let me add it to my 1988 Specialized collection, all i need is the Team and Epic for the full set As others have mentioned Gils the person to go to for replacement decals
Good to see another one being saved. It'll most likely be an 88 or 89 model as they were fairly similar framewise, there may be some date codes on the original XT parts that will help narrow it down. It'll be fairly obvious from the frame number whether it's an ex. team bike, see info on the build thread in my siganture as there are three team bikes identified that I'm aware of. Paul Thomasberg's "PT026", Cindy Whithead's "CW025 & Ned Overend's "NO02?". Daryl Price's bike from the 88 team is the only one that hasn't surfaced yet.
