Specialized Allez Epic 1991

Hey

I'm almost done with this bike and I'm having trouble deciding the colours for the cables, bar tape and saddle.

I'm trying to do everything as original as possible, but I was thinking yellow bar tape and/or cables. Is that totally against the retro rules

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

That's a very pretty bike! Yellow bartape / grey cables in my humble opinion, but of course there are no rules. Levers look a little low perhaps?

I agree with Finney, yellow bar tape, grey cables, preferably the darker grey.
I personally think the levers look about right, both lever and hood seem to be at the right angle for seat and bars. Just my opinion/preference of course.

The seat and handlebars are not adjusted yet. But thanks for input

I didn't think of grey cables, that's a good idea!

I did mine with yellow bar tape. Looks like I used the Ultegra 8 Speed STI groupset. The only reason I would have used this is purely to preserve the groupset. These were the frames that gave carbon a very bad name in the late 80's / early 90's as they were always coming apart (unglued).
That was my main reason for wanting one. It took me a while to find one & as always happens 2 came up within days of one another so I wound up buying with both. But I've only built one up & the other frame is still here somewhere.

That's an impressive collection of bikes you have. Do you still own all those bikes?

I will definitely go for yellow bar tape and grey cables now. Do you know what brand bar tape you used, it seems to match the frame pretty good.

Yes I still own all the bikes. I think from memory I used Velox Bike Ribbon handlebar tape.
