Thanks. Yes, I like to have a couple of lower gears available 'just in case'. Getting to bottom gear too soon is alarming if your approach to hills is winching up them. I'm definitely a tortoise rather than a hare.Lovely bike, triple makes sense to a wheezing old fart like me

I find one to one great for light touring 34/34 but like my triple for a heavy load.
Hmmm. Nearly a year. And in that time a few changes. I found an unused Sora BB, double chainset and derailleurs on eBay and decided to swap them in for a wider gear range.
And then decided to rebuild the wheels with mainly double-butted spokes, 36 front and rear (with plain gauge on the driveside rear). Also fitted some old mudguards (with new stays), which meant swapping the tyres for 700x30. Played around with different stem lengths and then went back to the one I was using.
All of which means a bike which is very similar to what it was last August, but a bit nicer all round. I still haven't committed to a final stem height so the steerer \remains uncut.
It's now a bit closer to finished than it was.

That's stunning. A perfect mix of classic and modern.
Nice! Is that the one that was on for £75 with carbon forks? An absolute bargain if so. I've swapped the bars on mine to butterfly bars. Not everyone's cup of tea, visually, but I've found I prefer them for most types of riding. Look forward to seeing pictures of yours as it comes together.
