Sorting a frame if too small seat post been used?

I use 27.2 posts with shims on mine (got them on 30.0 and 30.4 frames) - LOADS of quality 27.2 posts about and makes it easy to swap back & forth between frames if needed..

Alu shims cheap & easy off the bay from Taiwan..

thanks for that Osella

I have seen a couple of 27.2s that look nice, and as you say shims are easy enough to find - once concern I have is strength of 27.2s as I think (if memory serves me correctly ) that is a road bike size. Now I am not that chunky (ok maybe 12 1/2 stone on a good day) but have damaged seat-posts in the past with "enthusiastic dismounts"

27.2 is one of if not the most common size post used in high quality steel MTB frames. My Reparto Corse Martini Racing Bianchi, Bridgestone MB1s, Waterford 1400/2400, etc all run 27.2 posts. I also have a Indy Fab deluxe that has some damage done to it and IF bonded a custom fiberglass shim in the frame to take it from a 29.4 to a 27.2 and told me to never worry about it because it will last forever.

Soulcraft even provides a shim on their Option 3 to take it from a 28.6 down to a 27.2 to offer additional post selections.

You will likely find the ride more compliant too as the post will have a bit more natural flex.
