morning (just!)

when you mention the rear wheel freewheel's being nadg'd do you mean the freehub not the actual cassette itself?

Sorry I used the wrong wording!

The freehub was fine until I decided to spray degreaser over the cassette and chain on the bike. I cleaned the cassette and chain up nicely on the bike, then when I went to go for a spin the rear wheel made a very nasty noise.

so I whipped the wheel off, cassette off, axle out and found the freehub body was not removable. I then sprayed copious penetrating oil to try and quieten the freehub body, lots of rust and crap came out.

This made the thing noisier so I threw it back together in anger! in the process I bent one of the hub seals, so the hub is also missing a seal.

The bearings in the freehub body must be shot / dirty. Axle bearings and surfaces were fine.

As far as I'm concerned this makes the hub toast but someone may be able to remove the freehub body if they know how / can get a replacement.

The rim itself and spokes are fine, and appear to have very little use.

so there's no 10 or 12mm allen bolt socket to remove the freehub with?

Nope. There was a similar style collar in there, but no Allen flats or spline to get a purchase on. Almost like it was pressed or riveted in somehow.

Very odd, I've never had a cheapo hub before, I'm used to shimano!
