So what did your bike cost you BITD then?

I thought it would be nice to see how much you all paid for your first pride and joys from the glory days. My first bike was a orange clockwork bought in the summer of 1990 after a full 2 months of working in the post office. I went to Bury leisure lakes I think, and paid the massive sum of £640 for my bike suntour comp spec iirc and a very fancy orange titanium saddle thrown in as I was a cash buyer ;) I felt like a millionaire both before with the cash and afterwards with the bike- happy days.

Don't have any pix unfortunately but BITD my pearl-white cro-mega frame cost me £110 from my friendly LBS in Sprowston (Norwich...) and I swapped the kit over from my '88 Marin Palisades (8-speed LX STi) initially and added to it over time (XT thumbies and purple canti's/levers, etc...)

Later sold it to a mate at work for about £250 if I recall??

Bought my Blue/Silver fade Clockwork from Leisure Lakes near Southport for, I think, £570, in 1992. It was Suntour equipped as I couldn't stretch to a Shimano equipped one at the time.
Kept it for a few years without actually changing anything other than putting a flite on it. Traded it in at Bike Treks in Ambleside for my P7.
Back then, all the good bike shops seemed to have a particular, distinctive smell. Can't describe it, but I can remember it. Don't seem to come across it these days.

Being really picky didn't really want to go pointing out historical inaccuracies in random tales of bikes gone passed but... 1988 LX 8 speed?

I thought 8speed shimano groupsets came in with XTR m900 in the 90's?

Back on topic my first MTV (of sorts) was a Raleigh mustang (black and red version) which cost my father a whopping £65 from a second hand rack outside of drakes cycles in Leeds.

It wasn't quite my first MTB but certainly the first (REAL) ard'core MTB my Pace RC100 T bought from Leisure Lakes in Preston in 1991 for £1799 no sooner had it arrived than I started throwing more dosh at it RC35's etc. I only have photos of it on paper not digital.

Saved up Christmas, Birthday and paper round money for ages to get my 1989 Saracen Tufftrax for £370. Paid a deposit, then chunks off when I could. Used to go and look at it in the shop safe in the knowledge it'd be mine soon enough

Got a second hand Clockwork LX a couple of years later for around £350 I think :?
