unless it's my road bike and then it's Campag.

I'm not a sram fan elsewhere on the bike
but the chain has to be sram on my MTB.
XTR mecs, rings, and cassette with a sram chain

It says its worn,get a new chain
Rather that than a whole new drivetrain :shock:

I'll second the temperature as the cause - I've never had a chain snap on me but have had a long arm socket snap at the neck trying to remove a wheel nut - it wasn't a cheap one, just several degrees below freezing.

I run chains well beyond worn out and only get rid of them when they slip shift... that takes a while on friction shifters.

In about 20 years I can only remember breaking 3 chains while riding and it's always been when it's very cold.
I hadn't really thought about temperature being a contributing factor.

When i was doing DH racing i was forever snapping chains, usually powering out of a corner, or trying to ride back up rather than push. I have tried all makes...............they all snap!

Saying that i've only ever snapped one or two on the xc bike. It's usually the pin being slightly out of position.

Shimano chains are s**t...snapped two in a week once lol

TBH I would be using a different brand, Sram actually make half decent chains
