Thanks for your input fellas. On closer inspection it is the top of the tube that is stretched. I'm going to try a coke can insert (after pouring the coke down the toilet first).
Don't tip it away, put something grubby that needs cleaning in it.
Unless it's pepsi, then tip it away.
 
Is gritty grease anything like copper grease, which contains small particles of copper. Cheap at motor parts shops.
 
I have a shimmed P7 with allen bolt fixing and it's rock soild.

Also have a shimmed C16R with QR fixing that slips like an eel in a bucket of swarfega.

Sometimes the qr type bolts start to release their grip once they have passed a certain point of tightness, and as it is probably old, will have suffered wear, so this may be even more pronounced. I'd try a bolt or a newer qr to see if this makes a difference.
